I was just getting ready to put on the tuners ans the nuts didn't fit. I measured the thickness and it was at .680 and the finish is already done. What is my options?? Do they have gold nuts that I can get that are longer? They are Gotoh 510 tuners in gold.
I never thought of checking the thickness of the headstoch as they were cnc'ed John Watkins and I never had an issue with them before.
Thanks Gary

If you can sand it down toward .600 it will fit.

I would but the finish is already done. Anywhere to get washers that are .025? these are .060 thick.

You might get away with sanding the washers down if you can't find any. That should do it.I always mount my tuners before i finish to make sure they will fit to avoid this problem. ;)

Hi-

You could drill a shallow, wide counterbore in each tuner hole almost the same width and depth as the washers. This would make the tops of the washers almost flush with the peghead veneer.

I don't know if this is a commission but if this is for yourself this might be a good option. I like the look - check it out here on Kent Everett's gallery page - http://www.everettguitars.com/guitargallery.html.

Good luck-

The underside of the hex on the nut can be faced a little thinner if you know someone handy with a lathe.
The washers can be faced a hair thinner also if you're needing just a little. I think .687 is just borderline with the 510's.

I do like the look of the recessed hardware mentioned above but I would hate to try counterboring after finishing.
I could see some advantage also in that any finish lifting from overtightening might be invisible.
Probably would have to use a nut driver to tighten them if the recess was too deep for an open end or box end wrench?

Gary, you had asked originally if longer hexnuts were available. Shane Neifert had tried to get some longer ones from his Gotoh wholesaler a year or so ago.
No luck.
Might be a good product for an aftermarket supplier?
I had looked at making some at one time but would require a special die or single point thread cutting on the lathe.
Then there's the cost of plating.
