Hello friends ;)

Do you think the stiffness and the strength of 3 multi pieces walnut neck (J. regia) can allow to not install a truss rod ? (Dread, 6 strings, light gauge).
I'm a hobby builder, and I don't sell my production.

Thanks, and have a nice week-end,

Guillaume.

Guillaume: Don't think it's advisable to build without either an adjustable or non-adjustable truss rod.You would have to build in a calculated amount of back bow and even at that the neck would get ever increasing relief over time with no way to correct without a lot of work. Have never done this myself, so this is just my feeling what would happen.Put in a rod, think you will save yourself some heartbreak. Good luck. Tom.

A laminated neck isn't necessarily any stronger than a one-piece, it's just more resistant to warping due to wood movement. That doesn't make it any more capable than a one-piece of resisting the pull of the strings over time. If you're using only light gauge strings, you might be able to get away with just putting some carbon fiber rods in the neck but at that point it's just as easy to install a truss rod.

No! First place maple is stronger then walnut and i wouldn't exclude a truss rod in a multi piece maple neck. Take Westca advice and use one. It will save you a head ache in the future. Are you thinking about leaving it out because it is a difficult process for many? I have seen many mess a neck build during truss rod installation. If so it's worth learning the process.
