http://www.amazon.com/Porter-Cable-390K ... 001B2EGLK/

I just bought one, added 3 50-packs of H&L, all for $130. The sander is $81. This is a "brusheless" motor, with speed control. 3/32" orbit. Dust extraction. Electric and mechanical brakes. And it is low profile, perfect for guitar building. Very highly reviewed tool.

These sales do not last long at Amazon.

Hey Mike-

Thanks for the heads up! I just got one with a bunch of the sanding pads too.

Mike, this is something that has been missing from my arsenal, been making do with an old 1/3 sheet vibrating sander. At this price looks like I'm moving on up! :D

Thanks,
Joe

I do understand. My palm sander is great, but this is too nice to pass up. There will be gnashing of teeth when this sale is over.

Thanks for the heads up, Mike.
The low profile is what interests me but hadn't heard of the new brushless technology.
The electronic braking is a plus for sure.
It's on order.

Can't wait for mine to show up. I love the idea of the low profile. The reviews rave about this issue. As for the motor, since it has no brushes, it will last longer. I hope we will see this motor show up in routers also.

Thanks for the tip, Mike. Got one on order and loaded up on sandpaper while I was at it.

I just wanted to say that I'm pleased you guys can take advantage of this sort of bargain and to remind you how lucky you are. Not only does E-bay France not sell it, they don't sell tools... Of any description! :(

Dave, this is Amazon. You should be able to get it, maybe. If the link is regional and does not work for you, seach your Amazon.com site (Amazon.fr ??)

I do not know how you all had yours shipped, but mine just showed up (free ship). I am super cranked about this thing... heading out to the shop to play with it.

Just got mine today as well. It's going to take some getting use to...pretty wide accross the top. Quite a hand full.

Yeah, but so nice not having my hand buzzing after using it. The brake feature is really nice.

I guess I missed the sale. I just checked and it is 129.00 now. So I will have to keep using what I have. I am glad those of you that were quick enough got one for the price you did. Chuck

I just had to post this and thank you for the heads up again Mike!!! bliss
Mine came a couple of days ago but wasn't able to get to the shop until this evening. I haven't used it on a guitar yet but just stripped the top finish off two end-tables in record time. I've never used a sander this nice, wow! I didn't know how much I needed this tool, wasn't looking for one, so if you hadn't given the heads up I would never have known. Like you say no vibration, very little heat, great brake feature, dust collection and hook and loop discs and the paper didn't load up at all from that job. And I'll be able to remove those tables from my honeydew list, so everyone's happy!

One happy camper,
Joe

ps...I asked for and got the price adjustment also!

It is cool, huh Joe? And your hand is SO close to the work surface. Great control. As soon as you lift it off the workpiece, the head slows to 500 rpm, no danger of digs. And the paper lasts forever since it does not get clogged. Variable speed motor without brushes.

Mike (happy camper)

I have been working with this ROS (on a top) and must say it is a very nice tool! Dust collection is more then good (without a vacuum) and it is really great on the hands (low vibration).

Anybody else like it?

Post subject:  Re: Low Price Alert: PC 390 ROS

You bet Mike, I didn't know what I was missing. All I had before was an old 1/3 sheet orbital/straight vibrating sander, this is space-age compared to that. Even works well for 90 to 95% of the rim.

Hey with an 80 grit on there I've even stripped the paint off of two old dressers for refinishing. Sure beats messing with chemical strippers.

So, yeah I'm well pleased and so is the wife! :D

I've not used mine a great deal yet but I'm impressed with it so far.
Very nice tool. The 5" size is great for sanding archtop plate recurves.

Bummer. Missed this one. And I need a new one. The brake has gone out on 10+ year old PC orbital. Always leaves swirl marks now with removing from the surface.

Post subject:  Re: Low Price Alert: PC 390 ROS

Ken, it is true we got it for $30-$40 less than the standard price. But I bet anyone here who has used it will tell you "so what". Either wait for a sale, or just get the darned thing. I would have been just as happy with it at $129 as I was at $89. The lower price makes it sweeter, but its worth every penny, even at the higher price.

One other thing. The paper. It's MUCH cheaper than what I use on my palm sander, and you get to buy more in bulk.

Post subject:  Re: Low Price Alert: PC 390 ROS

I haven't used mine much. I seem to keep going back to my Ridgid 5" ROS. The PC 390 is a nice sander, but very wide accross the top, a real hand full. That's not much of an issue when I just let it rest on the wood and guide it around, but it's uncomfortable when I try to grip it in my hand. It is a smooth sander, but I haven't really had an issue with vibrations on my other random orbit sanders...perhaps I just haven't paid enough attention to notice it. I think that I will pull the PC 390 back out though and give it another try.

No tool is perfect for everyone. If you do not like it, I bet Ken would take it off of your hands.
