Post subject: | Ink Stain on Binding |
Hi Everyone, I'm new to the forum. I have recently begun doing some guitar mods (as well as amps, fx) so I'm anxious to explore this site. In the meantime, I have a question for the experts. I have posted this question elsewhere and received varying, often contradictory advice, so I'm hoping the folks in this forum can help. I have a new guitar that has what looks like an ink stain on the binding on the neck. It's not a bleed, it looks like someone may have touched or grabbed the neck with ink on his/her hand and stained the binding. The binding is creme colored. I'd like to remove the stain, if I can, but I'm afraid to use anything that might damage the finish on the neck, or damage the binding. It's a Gibson Les Paul, if that helps. The guitar is actually quite nice except for that one blemish. Thoughts on what I could try to use to clean it off without causing damage? Thanks Jim |

Hi Jim, and welcome to the forum! You should like it here. As Gibson uses nitro lacquer (I believe they do still) a quick rub of naphtha should take off the offending smudge withouth attacking the finish. Steve |

Thanks, Steve...per the Gibson website, they do use nitro lacquer. I'll try the Naphtha, Thanks again! Jim |
