Post subject:  Ink Stain on Binding

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to the forum. I have recently begun doing some guitar mods (as well as amps, fx) so I'm anxious to explore this site.

In the meantime, I have a question for the experts. I have posted this question elsewhere and received varying, often contradictory advice, so I'm hoping the folks in this forum can help.

I have a new guitar that has what looks like an ink stain on the binding on the neck. It's not a bleed, it looks like someone may have touched or grabbed the neck with ink on his/her hand and stained the binding. The binding is creme colored. I'd like to remove the stain, if I can, but I'm afraid to use anything that might damage the finish on the neck, or damage the binding.

It's a Gibson Les Paul, if that helps. The guitar is actually quite nice except for that one blemish.

Thoughts on what I could try to use to clean it off without causing damage?

Thanks

Jim

Hi Jim, and welcome to the forum! You should like it here.
As Gibson uses nitro lacquer (I believe they do still) a quick rub of naphtha should take off the offending smudge withouth attacking the finish.

Thanks, Steve...per the Gibson website, they do use nitro lacquer. I'll try the Naphtha, Thanks again!
