Does anybody know the actual height at the neck and tail of a martin 12 fret dread?

Thanks
LK

I've got an old one I can measure tonight.(1973 D18S) Is there any other measurements you need? The newer ones are different, but the depth may be the same.

Nope, just at the neck joint and end graft.

I've used 5" and 4" but I'll be interested in hearing the "official spec".

A quick question that is related i think. Lets assume for arguments sake that woody comes back with 4 inches total height at neck block, and 4.5 inches total at the heal. How tall do you make the Neck block and heel block, accounting for top/back and finish etc?

Thx!

Glenn

My backs usually come in at around .90 and my tops right around .1
I start out with taller than needed blocks and after the top and back are done, I bowl sand
the rims to the thickness needed.

I have found that if you start with blocks that are the desired heights, and using 18 and 28 foot bowls, then after sanding and putting the top and back on, I get pretty much the same number back .. close enough anyway. But then again, I dont really copy other guitars exactly, except maybe for shape more or less.

4 7/8" and 3 7/8" on a 1973 D18S. The new "Standard Series" Martins are different in shape and length. It makes sense they'd be a different depth too. Here's a picture of it. You can tell the shoulder are more rounded than the newer ones.
