| Post subject: | Back to the Spindle Sander? |
I have a couple coats of Z-poxy on this neck and it appears that I have sanded through the z-poxy on the side of the headstock. Notice the motled look. My intent is to finish with Tru-Oil. Should I sand this back on the spindle sander? I'm wondering if the mahongany will darken in time. If I don't use the spindle sander I don't think I can get the sanding even, that is by hand. The rest on the neck is fine and doesn't need any more Z-poxy. Any thoughts you can share or suggestions on how to fix this. |

If it is sand-through on the Z-poxy, you should be able to wipe on a thin coat of Z-Poxy to cover everything. You can even thin it down quite a bit with alcohol before wiping it on. No need to sand everything back, unless you are of a mind to sand back to wood except for the filled pores anyway. Jim |

As a rule....if you can see 'blotchy' before you apply finish.....'blotchy' will be all over you like a cheap shirt from Dollar General after finish. My own personal taste in this instance is to go after it with sandpaper (or spindle sander). Epoxy isn't as universal as shellac is when you start talking about putting things over it. If it's on the sides of the headstock you'll have some room to play. |
