For about a month I noticed some bad string buzz and/or choking of notes when playing on one certain fret. It's a Stratocaster. Strings high E to the 4th would buzz at the 7th fret, no where else. I discovered the 7th fret was lower than the others. So I files down the frets to even them out and recrowned the tops. This cured 3 strings, it still buzzes for the 4th string at the 7th fret. The 4th string has improved but not 100%. My question is, should I go back and shave some more off all the frets or just look for something uneven around the 4th string area? Thanks. |

you can just treat the problem areas by sanding them down slightly .. Jody |

If you have a single high fret, you can bring it down level with the rest, but a low fret is a different issue. You'd need to bring all the other frets down to its level, or you'll just chase the buzz around. Need a large fret levelling beam, to glide accross the entire fretboard (to do it right).http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Fretting_supplies/Leveling/1/Fret_Fingerboard_Levelers/Pictures.html#details |

All frets were equal in height so they all had to come down. After thinking about it some more I realized this and filed the rest down and everything is good. |

Just replace the low fret with a new one and file it down to the level of the rest. James |
