Well i am heading out for vacations to sunny St. Martin for a week and was hoping to have Ervin Somogyi's book to "chill" on the beach with, but it doesn't look like they will be out until July. I'm leaving in June. My favorite is Acquired of the Angels. It is a biography of DeAngelico and DeAquisto. Another fun and instructive read is the achtop building book by Robert Benedetto. |

I recently read The Violin Maker a book following the building of a violin by Sam Zygmuntowicz, this is not a how to book but is somewhat like Clapton's guitar as it follows the build, it also has interesting info on the Strad era fiddles. http://www.usatoday.com/life/books/reviews/2007-04-18-violin-maker_n.htm Fred |

I also read The Violin Maker and found it very interesting. Seems kind of sad that the only way those guys can get good money for their violins is to make them look they were made 300 years ago. Walter |

Apparently, it hasn't happened yet, or at least not one the players - or buyers - like better . . . I like the fact that with all today's computer analysis of sound, and high tech engineering, the old way is still best. Cumpiano says something along these lines too I remember . . . I too liked the Wayne Henderson build book (Clapton's Guitar). I know the guy a little bit, and he is very much as described . . . David |
