Unlike CITES Appendix I and II listings (BRW) which apply blanket restrictions of trade between all the treaty members, the export and import restrictions applicable to Appendix III extend only to trade between the treaty member who made application for Appendix III status, in this case Guatemala, and all other treaty members. This means that Dalbergia stevensonii (Honduras Rosewood) can be freely exchanged between all other CITES treaty members without restriction but can not be imported from, or exported to Guatemala without the appropriate permits. Cheers Kim Hi Kim, thanks for the info. My info comes directly from Hibdon Hardwood. They specified that they could not ship this set out side the USA. |

Just looking at a listing Hibbdon currently has on Ebay for a set of 'Koa' and notice that they very clearly state they will not ship anywhere outside the lower 48. Therefore it would appear to be a Hibbdon policy regardless of any CITES convention and that is fair enough I suppose because at the end of the day, it is their wood to sell how and where they please. ![]() So be biddink up my Americano frenz, buy, buy all zee vood dat u can, but juzz be rememberink zat vun day Australia vill be invadink your kapataliz kinkdom in our rubba boatz and zenn, zenn my frenz vee vill see who is laffink ven vee vill be takeink it all avay from u for naahzink. ![]() ![]() ![]() Cheers Kim |

Many thanks to Steve Saville, Marcus Bellevue, and Steve Brown for getting the bidding started on this nice HRW combo. To all OLFers outside the U.S. please accept our apologies for the exclusion from this current auction. In the next round of Hibdon auction action, like the last, I promise we will not exclude any potential bidders. As far as the importation/exportation of CITES protected items there are many grey areas which can be downright confusing and opaque even to those who are well versed. To keep this auction simple we limited bidding only those located in the U.S. To those on the fence who are thinking of bidding on this combo I can say this is one of the nicest sets we have in stock (of hundreds). The back set should be large enough for a D size guitar even if the builder wishes to remove all of the sap wood. The images don’t really do this set justice as the figure nearest the sap wood is really nice with a touch of spider webbing. Remember 100% of the winning bid goes to the OLF. Thanks, Andrew Gribble |

I still laugh to this day about a story dear Uncle Bob told me once.... he had bought a pile of boards here in canada, and was taking them back to the zoot barn, and stopped into the border patrol to get his taxes back (we used to refund them to you southerners .. no more). The guy next to the girl he is talking to overhears him say he has all this wood in his truck, and says, "I gotta see this" .. proceeds to go out, takes a look and notes "thats some nice lookin walnut you got there" .... Zootster say "Yep", and gets in his truck and carries on ... not stick of walnut to be had. |

Thanks, Andrew Gribble Thanks Andrew, Very gracious of you and a most generous offering as well this time round. I am sure the proceeds from this auction will only benefit all members of the OLF in the long run anyhow. You are correct about the cloudiness of the CITES convention, the goal post seem to float about from one boarder to the next and from one meeting of the managing bodies to the next. Having had first hand experience with importing Zamiaceae Encephalatos into AU, I know first hand what a frustrating experience CITES can be for everyone. The uncertainties, even amongst the authorities, makes it much easier for them to say 'no' first, and then act only when forced to by education and clarification that needs to be provided by the applicant. Hesh, as soon as we can find the repair patches for the rubber ducks our main assault force of 8 will launch the attack. We actually have 3 rubber ducks but only two of the outboards are currently working so a third of our troops (the other 4 guys) will need to remain behind in reserve. Upon landfall I shall split from the main force making my way by stealth to Michigan. Form there my objective will be to overthrow command and secure two bar stools in a Tecumseh pub nearest your place. ![]() Over and out Kim |
