Here is a photo of a mahagony neck after Z-poxy. This spot looks like maybe some residual glue, but I sanded it thoughly before I put on the Z-poxy. I'm kind of afraid that if I try to sand it out I'll get witness lines or a different color from the rest of the neck. Does anybody know what this is and what to do? |

I had that happen at the heel of a mahogany neck using the Stew Mac brush on Varnish and clear poor filler. I sanded it back to new wood and it didn't help. I ended up with the same splotchy look. I tintied some of the varnish to cover it. John |

It looks like it could be glue. But you have some lines on the back of the neck that have the same appearance. Which could mean it's grain coloring . What finish are you using? Is the humidity high 55%+ were your doing the work ? Mike |

I got those marks on my last neck, where I glued on ears to the sides. One right where yours is and one one the other side, at the end. I sanded one off. the other is deep. I think when I glued on the ears, the glue was absorbed into the wood. I don't remember ever wiping any glue on those areas. I painted the area with stain till it was close in color. basicly same as John. |

-To me it appears to be glue which has been absorbed into end-grain. If that's so, it may be difficult to remove. CW |

Thanks for the replies. This picture was after one coat of Z-poxy. I took a razor blade and scraped the spot, sanded smooth, and put on another coat. ...No more spot! ![]() |
