Post subject:  Question on Rare Species of Wood-Red Sandlewood

Anyone know much about this wood? The biological name is PTEROCARPUS SANTALINUS. I looked it up on cites and it seems that you can import this wood to the US as long as it is not in a log, wood chips, or powder form. Anyone ever seen sawed wood of this? The reason I ask is because I have someone who wants to make a Japanese Shamisen out of it, and they don't know where to get it. I know of a place in India(where it is grown) that sells wholesale logs, but not sawn wood. I'm hoping someone out there has come across some in the US. Here is a link to more information: http://www.redsandalindia.com/. Here is a link to the cites appendix: http://www.cites.org/eng/app/E-Jul01.pdf
