Hi all. Here are some progress photos of where I am at, I made 2 serious mistakes though and this is why it has taken longer than expected to finish nr.2. First I measured the bridge hight with no frets installed so the bridge with frets on came out to low !!! So I had to take of the glued bridge from the top !!! :? . went great and was a good learning. Second, I was gonna do an inlay on the end of the neck, but slipt so then I had to come up with something that would make it look ok. hmm. as taking of the bridge there was a few small dents on the top, so I sanded the finish of the top and redid the finish on the top, so right now it looks GREAT. Cant wait to show you all the finished guitar. allthough I will have to wait for the tru-oil to cure for a week or 2 first before gluing the fretboard to the top etc.
I took of the bridge with a heating iron (the ones for clothings)

This is my first neck done by myself. I really thought it would be real difficult, and allthough it was not easy it was really fun and a great feeling to see it come alive.
The head is french polished and the rest is tru-oil.

Lars, great job on getting that bridge off !! [clap] Scary stuff, huh? I was particularly interested in your heel block. I deepened the body on my current build and already had the neck blanked out. Now the heel falls short of the binding. oops_sign I love what you did with yours. It has similarities to what I have been envisioning for mine. Great save!!
Can't wait to see the whole guitar.

Bye the way, I also love the back strap. Koa, yes?

Nice job on the neck! I am eager to try carving my own neck as well, so you have inspired me [:Y:]

For the short time you have been doing this , you are doing very clean work. I think you may have a talent for this.

Randolph, yes I made it with a white stripe so it will come together with the white line on the binding. The reason it went so thick is that I first was planning on making it like on my first build (if you´ve seen that) but changed my mind, hmm. :D . Its Koa, yes.

Thanks Dan. Its real fun to carve a neck, I had a good help from John Mayes Neck DVD, his videos are a great help.

John, Thanks a million my friend. meens a lot.

I forgot to mention another mistake I did. - I put on the frets before I had finished sanded the fretboard, so I had to also take of the frets, resulting in some tearouts, so I had to sand this down , then finish sand it and put the frets back in place. so I am also learning to repair :D :D .

buhubuhu. nobody likes me :shock: :( . 4 replies, My personal competition with myself on what post I did do that generated most replies has this to the worst laughing6-hehe laughing6-hehe .

Anyone using tru-oil that has any recommendation on how to get that glassy finish on the top ? Allthough it looks GREAT as is, I dont seem to get that look of glass, it looks more like the finish follows the lines of the top. (hmm good explenation huh) I am on my 5-6th coat now. (as I had to redo the finish on the top. so the B/S are like 12 coats or so. I just sanded lightly to get ot more even and it felt great and turned much more even so we will see after I put on another coat.

Boo-Hoo, Lars, I'm crying with you too!

I shouldn't have even gone in the shop last evening, I messed up two things just on the headstock, took the whole evening to get back where I was before I started.

But at least I didn't have to tear off a bridge and the frets, so you are waaay ahead of (or behind) me. So I guess you take the prize today.

The "flying purfling" is brilliant, creative and new. Congrats.

I've built 6 guitars and installed 9 bridges on them, I feel your pain.

The TruOil on the top of my #4 is not near as shiney as the other parts of the guitar. I thnk it was my application because I saw a TruOil guitar recently with a nice glossy top.

Lars bro if you skip the step of flossing the bridge to the dome of your top your bridges will be much easier to remove.... In fact they may remove themselves with a little time... :D

Lars, I was worried about you for awhile,I heard about some guy who jumped off a fjord with a guitar last week. Did you sell you first one to a guy in Norway by chance? Hey, all that free gasoline, they can't complain can they? idunno


Really, is your first one a lost cause at this point? [uncle] Any imputus to re-top it? :mrgreen:

Thanks alot my friends. The funny thing is that the new bridge look lots better than the one I took off and the new finish to. so I am happy for doing it all. and I learnt a lot from it to. I am not the guy jumpin in the water in Norway laughing6-hehe laughing6-hehe . but there have been times I thought I would though. allthough they get less by time haha. when one were younger (37 now) life was a rollercoaster and the trip to the highest building for a dive was allways near laughing6-hehe laughing6-hehe . but now I go like, man, to tired to even think of moving, and also, everybody loves raymond is on the TV. !! laughing6-hehe laughing6-hehe
