Post subject: | Finish problem area on Z-poxy filled lacquer finish |
I have a strange thing happening on an area of the bass side of my latest build in the upper bout. The finish is Z-poxy sanded back to wood, a couple coats of shellac made from flakes and then Behlens instrument lacquer. The problem area ( 3"x3" ) shows grain after buffing I sanded the area again and no grain was showing, but after buffing it was back. What could be causing this and how should I get rid of this. I was thinking I should sand back to wood in this area and start over with shellac and lacquer but thought someone else has had a similar problem. The rest of the finish is perfect, what gives. Hey Fred, sounds to me like the heat from buffing is causing the finish to sink in that area. I am finding that Zpoxy makes a good pore filler, but I still get some pores reappearing after time, and the finish starts to sink. what you may try is to buff up the area by hand, using a micorifbre cloth and mequiars - I use number 2 followed by number 7 ... if done right (and long enough), it shines just like the wheel, but with less heat buildup, and thus less potential to sink. |

Thanks Tony it seems like that is what is happening as there is ne pores showing until buffing. I have sanded and will touch up the lacquer in that area. The funny thing is that this is the only place on the entire guitar that did this. There are no pores showing now but I still need to respray the area. Filippo Yes I meant pores, bad choice of words.
