Holy smokes. I turned a comfortably packed photography studio into an efficient tight studio lol. I put up a wall, now I have a 11x22 luthier creation station ![]() ![]() In the 11x22 room I will cut, sand glue, bend and build. For now I will use a shopvac on wheels and a Delta dust filter for keeping the dust down. I have cutting and sanding on one side and glue and build on the other. I have been moving 3 postal tables and 5 standing tools around 3 shelves and I am piecing together a flow slowly. But being a nube can I peak at how it may end up? So far the plan is to do finishing in another building BTW Seeya at A.S.I.A |

John, are you looking for pictures of our shops? Looking for ideas? I'm pretty proud of my little shop and have posted pictures and details all over the net. Here's a link to the most up to date post on my shop. It's on another luthier forum, but many of the same folks are there as are here. Also, check out my signature line below to a more dated post on my shop. Hope you can find some useful ideas there. |

not finished yet, but closer... still some jigs to make..like bowl sanding jig, and my new vac press. But yeah I've simplified my shop, and I like it very much. Big benches (33"X72"). I set up my dust collection so that I just have to swap the hose in between machines and they are all close to the cyclone. Incredible suction power as it is VERY efficient. Just one 7' hose run. All climate controlled, and clean........well mostly. |

Hey Steve, it looks like Jimmy Buffet could drop by any moment. Beautiful. Nothing like a good breeze off the ocean to control temp and humidity in the shop. You get my vote for building in the most gorgeous place on earth..... ![]() PS Anyone know the name of the OLFer who actually sold a couple of his guitars to Jimmy Buffet? (one t or two?) |

Until I learn more in John's Photo 101 - 103 tutorials these are the best I can offer. Unfortunately the shop is not this organized right now since I'm doing a lot of resawing at the moment. ![]() |

Bruce you got it right.... its Cane Garden Bay Tortola B.V.I. Jimmy comes by every once in a while in a megayacht and wrote about it in his song "" Manana". You are so right about the humidity..I havent been able to work for a couple of weeks for rain. In a good dry spell RH is around 65 so not toooooo bad. I have serious tool envy looking at your workshop Bill! |

.So after putting up with techies and musicians who, hung around and produced nothing in my upstairs studio, I said enough is enough and I kicked them and their gear out. (Ever noticed how gear stinks of beer, cigarettes and road dust.) Maybe if they had produced just one track ..(all them videos I shot and posted myself). Besides they weren't paying rent or even offering to shoot me some bucks, just hung around drinking my beer and smoking. Me then pulled the carpet and made a few work benches. Yup! Is now my new shop. Break out shop still be in the cold cold basement, but assembly is in now gonna be upstairs where it is warm. With windows and light. Yay! See old space full of computers and techie junk. Eight years in television, I don't need no more techie junk around me. ![]() ![]() ![]() Always wanted an old timers / Santas work shop type environment ....so I carved up the brackets and edges of the shelves and faces of the vices and even carved the threaded rods for the vice and the nut as well... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Basement and summer shop for rough and breakout work. ![]() ![]() ![]() and here be a 2 min video of me in the basement shop.....enjoy. http://luthiertube.com/video/288/one-crazy-luthier blessings the Padma |
