I saw those Stew Mac bars that looked pretty good. Way too much $ for me. I like the idea of rectangluar bars. I will probably just make them out of wood but does anyone have a cheap source for these bars. I have searched the web high and low with no luck.

The StewMac stuff is definitely pricey. You probably already know this but a lot of use fiberglass rods from kite suppliers. You can get your go bars for about $1 each that way.

Link,

SkyHigh has some of the round fiberglass gobars for sale in the classifieds for $2 each. I believe he still has 30 of them. :)

Thanks,
But I like a rectanglular cross section. They seem easier to use although the round ones can fit closer together.

Link,

I used fiberglass snow poles. They usually sell for $2 each, but I got them from a local store for $1.50 each since I bought about 30. I then sanded the last inch or so of one end into a square shape on the belt sander and left the other end round with the vinyl tip cover on it. I put the end with the tip on it on the brace and the square end against the overhead board. Squaring this end keeps them from being unruly, as round ones can be.

Randy,
What are snow poles ?

We don't have those around here but I can surmise what they are for.

I was short on go bars (I bought the pricey ones - which I like, but they are, well, pricey) and had a length of nice dry ash from a tree we cut down. Cut some lengths - 1/4 inch by about 7/16 inch - they worked fine!

Here is a link for a company that makes snow poles. They carry them at local hardware stores and at Home Depot, etc. They're markers really, so they may have them at Home Depot, Lowes, etc. even if you don't live in a snow area.
