Post subject:  Polishing Problem

I use the Menzerna "finest grade" buffing compound on a pedestal buffer and the polish is good with no visible scratches. The problem is that it leaves a cloudy residue on the guitar. I assume that this is the binder in the compound. I then remove the haze with Mcquire's No. 82 swirl remover which takes care of the haze, but leaves very fine hair like scratches. Another round at the buffer removes the scratches, but now the haze is back. [headinwall]

Logically, either my applicator for the swirl remover or the towel that I use to remove the swirl remover is the culprit, but they are soft terry cloth that to me seem perfectly clean. Am I missing something here?

Thanks for any advice.

Chuck

Chuck, Are you using Nitro for the finish? If so , you might be buffing too soon after the last coat.I wait 4 weeks and havent had that problem useing McFadden's Nitro.Buffing with yellow fine, then final buff with tan very fine high gloss menzerna. No need for Any Meguiar's. I do wet sand up to 1500 first.
