My true-oil finish on the sides still feels a bit sticky even after 2 days, the neck is dry and so is the back. But sides are a bit muchy. so what if i did not use enough shellac underneath the oil, what will happen, does it simply take a lot longer to dry, or will it not dry at all ??? "EIR". I am about to put on my fouth coat. after thinking about it I cant remember putting on any shellac on the sides, might have forgott, but I hope I did brrrrrrr ![]() Lars |

Tru-oil won't cure over rosewoods and needs a sealer. More coats of Tru-oil will just be more of the mushiness. Sand off the tru-oil on the sides, do some shellac seal coats and re apply the Tru-oil. |

Lars, How did you apply the Tru-oil? Did you brush it on? If too thick it could slow the drying. I was taught to use many very very thin layers to build the final finish. A small amount of Tru-oil on pads of old t-shirt material spread on and then immedialty wiped back off leaving a very find coat of finish. This is repeated till you build the thickness you want and then level and polish once dry. I don't know about the ability to go over rosewood but I don't remember an mention on my ukulele building forum. The members of that forum use Tru-oil quite a bit. Of course, as always, there are a variety of finishing scheduals that people use. Best of Luck Philip |

Lars, I'm far from a finishing expert, but when I have used Tru-oil I sealed with shellac first and never had any trouble finish fully drying overnight. Best, |
