Post subject: | A question regarding Cocobolo sides |
I have a opportunity to acquire a cant of Cocobolo that is big enough for me to resaw several side sets. My question is, this cant is rift sawn with straight lined annular rings from on end to the other. Would this be acceptable to use as sides? There are no checks, cracks or knots and the piece is kiln dried. I appreciate your input. ![]() |

Thanks Bob. If there's anyone I would have wanted to hear that from, it's you. ![]() The supplier guarantees 100% money back satisfaction so I guess I'm gonna do it. ![]() |

What Bob said ! Coco is one of the easier Rosewoods to bend because it's so loaded with oils(resins) Just do some testing with it to make sure your NOT allergic to it's dust. Mike |

Howdy Mike thanks ![]() I have no allergies to the dust but as a woodworker of many years I've made it a common practice to use extra precautionary measures when processing exotics. When resawing or sanding especially I use a Triton Respirator with a long sleeved shirt and Thickster gloves. In addition I use an exhaust fan to the outside, a dust collector, and a shop air cleaner down to 1 micron. For some reason when I started my custom wood furniture business my lovely Bride said she wanted me to live and insisted that I take all the precautionary measures. ![]() good down draft table. And as great as fresh cut wood smells, I savor the scent in the atmosphere rather than snorting the fine dust off the wood. But then I digress, I'm preaching to the veteran choir here. ![]() On a different note, I have greatly admired your artistry as a luthier for several years now. You're among my list of luthier heroes so to speak ![]() |
