Hi all. I don't post guitar pictures often, but I felt this one was worth it. It's my 25th! I wanted to share this with you. It's a sitka top/sycamore back and sides student model flamenco. Since it's a student model, anything purely aesthetical was removed, except for the rosette which was simplified compared to my standard ones. It doesn't show on the picture but the finish is pretty basic as well. I would have like for my 25th to look more 'classy', but that's what the customer wanted! Thanks to everyone who helped me at one point or another, especially Michael Collins! |

Lovely! Simple is good, especially when it allows the wood to speak for itself, like this guitar, for example. How did you like working with lacewood? And how does it sound? |

looking good Alain !! That's a beautiful set of wood ! where did you get that? I really like your roses ! I get orders for so to speak stripped down guitars all the time! MANY players do NOT want the racing stripe purfs and all the bling . They just want a working tool-a great guitar! hey we live 3 an a half hours away from each other ! we should get together when we can ! also www.guitarfoundation.org ! you should be ther at the next convention with some of your guitars!!! Look at the list of guitamakers that will be there under vendors! take care Mike Mike |

Thanks for the nice words guys! Steve: Indeed sycamore is also called Lacewood, but usually lacewood is a different kind of wood, more mohagony-like regarding color, but with similar figures. Sycamore is a light density wood, that works quite well. It's almost a soft wood. No isuue bending, and the the softness makes sanding and scraping a breese! But, that said, it is also more prone to damage. The corner of a scraper blade will hurt it more than solid maple or rosewood. Michael: I get most of my wood at a local lumber store called 'Langevin-Forest' here in Montreal. Although they are speciallised in exotic woods, they do not show a special attention for luthiers that much. So you have to search through their stock to find nice quartersawn boards. And yes, we should meet sometime. Let me know if you ever pass by Montreal and I will do the same if I ever get by your place. I'll check it out about the guitar convention. I'm already a bit booked for the summer though. |

Alain, A beautiful guitar, fancy add-ons do not define the greatness of the product. I have a nice quarter-sawn sycamore board that I picked up at the local Woodcraft. I'm moving it up in the priority list now that I've seen your guitar. What bindings did you use? Something dark and reddish, but I can't define it from the pictures. |

Thanks Gene. I used Ovangkol (also called Shedua). Here is an sample picture of the board I cut them from. |

Alain, I like it! Sycamore is a good choice for a flamenco, and your binding scheme is just right. Well done. Steve |

Alain- You have an innate sense of rightness, for lack of a better word, in making your instruments. Beautiful simplicity, imho. ~CW |

Nice looking guitar Alain. It inspired me to take a look at your web site. What caught my eye there were the construction pictures you have for shaping the neck. Would you be willing to share with us how your neck jig works? I have the same Canadian Tire rotary tool that you show in the jig! Thanks, Pat |

Thanks Pat. I'd be glad to explain my neck carving jig, only it's a bit tricky to explain without the proper pictures. So I'll take the time to take those pictures while carving the next neck (planed for next week). It's probably worth making a new thread. I'll PM you when it's on. |

Beautiful Alain. I tend to be fairly minimalist in my tastes, so this guitar really appeals to me. Exellent and congratulations. Darrin |
