| Post subject: | Cutting inlay tool questions |
I got the Stew Mac frame. How do I tighten the blade!? I stopped by a hobby shop and they can get magnifier eye cover thingys. Sorry to get so tech  They come in various distance from subjects from 4" to 20" away. Also, they have a few different magnifications. Should I wait for ASIA to by Magnifier eye cover thingys or do any of "our" dealers handle what I need?

If the saw frame is like what I use, I tighten the clamp on one end of the blade and the flax the frame ends closer together and tighten the other end while holding the flex. The tension holds the blade tight. Stew Mac wanted too much for their saw frame and I bought a cheap one that works well. Fred |

Loosen the top one while maintaining the lower one. Now flex the "C" in just a tad and tighten the screw. The "C will flex back and this will tighten the blade. you don't want it overly tensioned as these blades are easly snapped. Stewmack carries them as well. I have a pair of Bausch & Lomb with interchangable lenses I find more comfortable than the OpiVisor |

IMHO the inlay saw Stew mac sells is lacking. I'd recommend one that the length of the frame is adjustable. The blades break pretty easy. If it breaks near the end you can just adjust the frame and keep using the same blade. http://www.widgetsupply.com/page/WS/CTGY/jeweler-saw |

You can also just get some cheap reading glasses at the local drug store . RioGrande for saws and blades. And don't breath the dust in. You should have a respirator or a vacuum with a HEPA (sp?)filter. |
