This is no big deal but I started doing this a few years back and it works well so I thought I would pass it on. I have used the cut the fingers off the old glove trick, duct tape, masking tape, bought ones from various places. I lose them, they stretch out and fall off etc. These are cheap and they stay on. I use this tubing to protect all shorts of tools from awls to a pocket screw drill bit. It keeps things in my travel box from getting dinged.

The picture should show it all. Get some vinyl tubing from the borg in different sizes. Cut off a short length and heat with the heat gun until you can melt the end together. A hammer or a piece of wood helps to shape and mash down the ends. (Do this off the chisel) Some water to cool the tubing off when you have the ends melted together is helpful. You can slit the sides and melt for chisels that don't fit snug enough. After they cool you can sand on a disk sander to clean up if you want.

Great tip on the chisel condoms, Link. I try to protect the ends of the hard-won sharp edges but often cant find them even at Woodcraft. Thanks for posting...I'm sure you have many more up your sleeve!

Thanks Link !! Great idea and easy to implement. I think I'll head down to the shop and see what size tubing I've got laying around...
