I just finished this this morning and thought you might like to have a look.

12 fret Parlour from the Scott Antes Plan
B&S - Local Maple
Top - Local Sitka
Binding, wedge and back strap - Very local (back yard) Cherry
Purfs and headplate - Wenge
FB & bridge - Mac Ebony
Neck - Maple & Cherry
Tuners - Grover
1 13/16 Nut

My second guitar but the first one on my own and out of my new shop and boy did I learn a lot and have a great time doing it despite the odd colourful adjective. I'm pretty happy with my first set up and really happy with the sound. It's everything I hoped it would be and then some.

A big thanks to the people that patiently answered my questions and the people who put together some great tutorials posted here and of course the people that make this site happen.
Oh, and thanks to the logging truck driver for not going back for the Sitka log that fell off your truck [:Y:] .

Great looking guitar.

I know very much about how you feel right now.

You'll enjoy that one for a long time.

Did you follow the plan exactly or make some mods along the way (besides adornments)?

If you used the Antes plan, did you end up with a reversed lower legs like so many of us?

I'll toast to you tonight by having a Windsor Canadian whiskey drink.

That is awesome! I would love to make a little parlor guitar too, but just not enough time! You did an awesome job on this. By the way, what finish did you use?

Thanks gents. Dave, reversed legs, whatever are you talking about [xx(] . I should have turned the plan over. And no, I didn't follow the plan exactly. The bracing is quite a bit lighter and the neck is a little wider.
The finish Tracy, is Becker Acroma Post Cat Lacquer on the body and headstock face and some lower sheen pre cat stuff on the neck. I did buff the neck and lost some of the buttery smooth feel of satin lacquer, but it's still got a good feel.

That is sweeeeet! I bought those plans some time ago to use to build a copy an O-16NY I've have for 40 years. I'll get to it eventually. I bet that guitar of yours sounds real good. Enjoy!

The maple is stunning!! And the choice of the other woods works
extremely well with it. It's outstanding for a second guitar [clap] [clap] [clap]

The big choice you'll have to make sometime in the future is whether or not
you want to sell it when somebody really likes it also. I just went through this
with my third guitar, and I've missed it every day since I said "yes"... [xx(]

Nice Job! A couple of questions.
1. How do you like the Grover geared tuners?
2. Did you make the pyramid bridge? If so any tricks?

I've made several from these plans and love them. They are great little guitars and are always conversation starters wherever they show up. A few of us put the lower face brace on the bass side of the X instead of the treble on our first because we misread the plans. They sound better with the brace in the right place!

Thanks again! I really appreciate the nice comments. It's kinda funny because I didn't really put too much thought into the wood selection. It's stuff I had quite a bit of and really just wanted to build something for practice. And man, did I learn a lot. I hope I can remember it all. There was a thread a while back asking something like "things you would like to do" and one of the responses was "to build a guitar without making any mistakes". I'd be pretty happy to see that in my lifetime.

I play heavy handed finger style with thumbpick and this little puppy is GREAT! I'm happy I made the neck a little wider also.

I get to join your club Terry. :D The machining and finish on the Grovers is pretty nice Terry. They work well and for the price I would recommend them. They felt a little heavy when I first put them on but having never installed SS tuners had nothing to compare it to.

I used a router table with the biggest, fresh, 1/2" pattern bit. A breeze for three sides. If you ever come up with a good way to do the 4th please let me know. I used a spindle sander and sort of whittled the rest. The most excellent Rod True saddle slot routing system worked great. As well as his approach to segmented rosettes. Thanks dude!

I'd like to do another guitar while the mistakes I made are still fresh in my mind so I can hopefully just make a batch of new ones......... but what my household really needs is an "A" Style Mando. Then again I guess there's no reason why a person can't have two on the go.

Well... I did drop by Danny's place today & spent a happy time playing the little beauty.
I have always been a big fan of little guitars, but this one is definitely a cut above.
With a really small bodied guitar, I expect the bass to be a bit thin & the sustain to be limited. Not the case here! What a great sounding instrument!!! LOUD! Without being too "brassy". Even all up & down the fingerboard. No one note sounded out louder than another & no "thumpy" notes anywhere. Add to that an amazing sustain with plenty of pleasant overtones & (in my book) this adds up to one great guitar.
I am totally impressed.
I am looking forward to hearing mine, once it's finished. I have high hopes for that coarse grained second growth Sitka.
Congrats Danny! We'll get together once mine is done. I'll be happy if it sounds (and feels) any where near as good.

Danny, that is one excellent looking guitar, and Dan's testimony of it's sound, well sounds excellent too.

Way to go. One of these days I'll hit you island folk up and we can have a great time chattin' and pickin' (although, I really do suck at pickin').

PS. Powell River is not on the Island. We're upcoast, 100 miles north of Vancouver, but we're so isolated, it takes two ferries to get here.
