Very quick question: I have a non controllable dehumidifer (its either on or off) - does anyone know of a device that could be used together with this to 'auto' on/off the dehumidifer which could be set to RH45 and left to do its thing? Or do I need a new dehumidifer which has this feature built in? Have serached on the web , but cant seem to find anything.

Thanks

I don't know of any specific models but there are hydrostats out there that can be set up on a relay that can control power to your dehumidifier. Check with Honeywell.

There are several models that will allow you to plug in your humidifier directly without a solenoid:

Frank,
My de-humidifier has settings, but I find that I leave it on the continuous setting most of the year, then when we have a rare dry spell, I just turn it off.

Is your unit actually lowering your shop RH lower than 45?

Thanks David, and everyone

No, I am in teh process of setting up a shop, and was hoping to use an existing dehumidifier (dryness not being a major problem in the  ... UK! ;-)), rather than buying a new one with settings.... I did just get sent this from another source that looks perfect, so have posted the link in case anyone else needs this sort of control.

Frank, that humidistat looks great, if you need it.

I wouldn't buy it yet, you may find, unless your shop is very tight, that you'll do like I do, and leave your unit on maximum all the time, unless it is a very large unit for the shop space.

Somewhere there is a place for us.... a place of 50% RH all year long. bliss
