I'm purchasing a new drill press, and I'm leaning toward a grizzly G7944 with HO967 sliding vise. Any advise? ![]() |

Thank you very much Nelson. Grizzly tools are a crap shoot, I guess. I'm specifying on my order to pick out the one made on a tuesday morning, just after coffee break. ![]() For the money (with my business model, my purchasing decisions always start with that phrase) I've been happy with Grizzly. |

I do not think Grizzly tools are a crap shoot (not all of them). I think they build fine table saws and bandsaws for the money. Now, their drill presses are another thing. I just do not get it! They all look like after thoughts. Stuck in the 80's. Everybody has an opinion here, so I will not state mine as best. But I love my Powermatic. Lasers, lights, 1hp, variable speed (on the fly), tachometer, adjustable table, safety key. But I think after the cashback deal, I paid about $600 for it. Maybe a bit less. So its not a cheapie. But, its also not a deal buster at that price. Steel City makes a nice one too. Mike PS: Most of those reviews were positive... but many mentioned the "roughness". I will say this...their customer service is reported to be excellent. I have never had a person (to my face) say anything but good things about the folks at Grizzly. |

Did you look at the Steel city? I think it's getting one of the best reviews right now. It also happens to be on sale at Woodcraft until end of this month i think. |

I've been looking for a BENCH drill press that is old school quality. It can be small at 10" or less with a small precision chuck and a good depth stop. Is there anything like this even available anymore? Thanks Nelson Palen |

I just bought a Griz drill press. If you look at the amazon reviews (at least on the model I bought - 20" floor model) all the bad ones were 2 -4 years old, the ones form 2008 and 2009 were glowing. |

I bit the bullet and got the Shop Fox version from a local dealer, the model with the oscillating quill option. I usually shop around on the net for the best deal, then check my local woodworking supplier. He is very competitive and beat Grizzly by a considerable amount, taking shipping into account. Thanks for all the reviews. |

Wanted to make a report on the Shop Fox drill press. I got the one with the sanding drum option from the local guy, and the cross slide vise from grizzly. Here's a pic trying out a router bit on a old bridge on the highest speed. |

I bought the Steel City drill press and I've been very happy with it.The quill travel is quite long and it has a great depth stop.It also came with a laser sight that works excellent after you spend some time lining it up.I feel that is of very good quality. BobP |

I think I may go get it after seeing yours! Mike |
