I'm looking for the side tracing in mold (to precut sides to dish shape) tutorial, but that link is down for me, the others work fine...!? ![]() ![]() |

Go to the board index and then to the video and tutorials section. Look in the archives of all tutorials under "sides" and it's there. Warren. |

I try to have a guitar around like I'm trying to build for a pattern and quick measurements. You can take an existing guitar, slice some tinfoil lengthwise to say 6 by 32 drape it over and press it to the guitar sides. What you get is a three dimensional curved pattern of the guitar. Then take that representation of the final shape, and flatten it. Most of the time I tape it to a piece of 6 by 32 1/8th inch bathboard, tempered hardboard. Then head over to the bandsaw and cut out the edges of the side template. Pretty simple. When you finish, dril a hang hole in one end and label it. Besidses guitar shape also put an arrow indicating which is the top side of the template. That side is the straightest and the curvyiest side is the back. That's how I do it. It's never perfect when you get it assembled, and you will need a smidge of excess side to sand or plane to perfection and height. I usually take the template to the belt sander to smooth out bandsawn irregularity. |
