would anyone be interested in sharing the benefits of bulk discounts? I think small shops should be able to enjoy some of the same discounts as larger shops.

Hello Robert,
Welcome to the forum.
The OLF has done a couple group buys on strings. So, yes there is some interest.
What do you have in mind?

Steve

I'm thinking discount in just about every catalog I see if you buy in bulk. One wood company has large discounts on 12or more of the same sets. If there is a way to find twelve people that want that same item, we could all see a little savings.
Steve, how was the group buy handled? Was one person in charge of $ collection and sending strings to everyone that participated?

Yes, one person usually takes care of the order, collecting money and re-package and shipping to those who participated. Usually someone who has been a member for a long time and has some history in the forum.

It always seems like a good idea at first but can become a lot of work.. Sometimes the additional work & expenses, and the fact your going to carry it as inventory offset the savings.
Just repackaging and shipping adds up fast. Depending on what your ordering and whos involved your also looking at dealing with brokerage & taxes.

Generally speaking I don't think the discount on a 10+ order justifies it. Get into the 100+ range and then your talking savings that justify the time, work and expense involved.
