Here you go...http://smartflix.com/ search the site for french polish. You will find Robert O'briens very fine finishing DVD.

Please bear in mind that those who make these videos only get royalties from the first purchase. Once purchased by the rental company, the maker gets zilch. Just a little awareness raiser. [:Y:]

Is renting the best option? I've got Robbie's finishing DVD and Im always watching the thing.....its reference material that you keep at hand and youre always going back to it. Ive just bought Ron Fernandez's French Polishing DVD and thats in the same league...just my ten cents worth.

I feel your concern Jody as my day job is an electrician IBEW and I've been laid off since 1/01/09. I have just recieved Robbies CD but I'm a little afraid that the Everclear won't get used for the French Polish. :)

Do not rent from these guys as they are "stealing" from the person who made the video. what they do is that they buy 1 copy and then rent it out. the author get only money from the 1 copy they bought. I call this stealing and illegal. correct me if I am mistaken or wrong. Also ask John Mayes about this as I think he´s the one pointing this out.

Lars.

So the librarys are thieves too? And I am when I lend out tape to friends?
Just messin with you. :P
It sure seems like if someone is distributing/renting and making money off them that they would need to pay a royalty.
Better get a lawyer.
If not then maybe I'll start renting out my video library, What's your choice? :P

I have wonder about renting also. I recently bought the 10 DVD set on building a steel string guitar from the StewMac. The DVDs are called A master Class in Acoustic Guitar Making. I watch the DVDs over and over. I am very glad I bought set as I keep watching them and picking up more information most times I watch one.

I have thought about the same thing when I get to the point of finishing the guitar. Should I rent a DVD on finishing or should I consider buying one. I keep coming back to how many times I have watched the DVDs I have on guitar construction and think maybe it is best for me anyway to buy the DVD so I can continue to watch it.

I haven't regretted buying any of my Video/ DVDs yet. These are teaching tapes not something you watch for entertainment. Heck I don't do something for awhile so I always go back and refresh myself as to what I'm going to do. It would be nice to be able to preview some of them. I like to make a copy of my stuff for backup.
