I'm quite jealous of the opportunity to get together and learn from someone like Ervin Somogyi.
Not quite jealous enough to move back to the land of my birth - California.

Just in case there's anyone in Northern California who doesn't already know and may be interested, the NCAL meeting this Sunday (1pm) will be at Ervin Somogyi's place where he will give us a talk on bracing. I'm really looking forward to it. If anyone needs details, PM me. Cheers, Dave F. |

We had a fantastic turnout - I'm guessing about 30 people - all crammed into Ervin's basement workshop! Good to see you there David (Skyhigh)! It was a great meeting. The show and tell bit was unusually popular this time, with lots of useful discussion and hints/tips on construction and methods, spured by several very nice looking/sounding instruments from various people (meeting pictures and notes will appear on our NCAL website eventually). The meeting went for nearly 5 hours!! Ervin's talk on bracing was extremely well received, as was news that his 2-volume guitar design/building treatise would be out later this year (self-published.....he's looking for input on what the pricing should be, so if you have ideas about this, please contact him). I bought a VERY nice b/s set of curly koa from Ervin, who was downsizing his koa stock (since no one ever asks him to build them a koa guitar - his customers are mainly into BRW!). Others sold/bought some nice walnut and ziricote sets too. Cheers, Dave F. |

It was nice meeting you again David.F Suprises! -Ervin had Fox style bender that was wide enough for two bend at a time. Didn't we have a thread in recent day where someone was asking about this? -JIGS, oh man... I never saw soo many jigs. I think over hundred. |
