I know you've done it, but it is a rarity for me. Last night I met with two brothers who own a nice group of vintage Martins, a '44 & '45 D-28, a '29 00-21, & a '24 00-45! If you've seen my website, you know that I aim to reproduce the styles of the 20's and 30's. What a great opportunity to compare side by side the old and new, and to have an educated pair of eyes and ears to add feedback to my own judgements. Ranks right up there with a meeting of Luthiers of Southeast Texas (LOST). Hey! when's the next meeting? |

That must have been a fun night. Nerdy, but fun. |

Hi David, What conclusions did you come to from the meeting? |

Doug, comparison may be the thief of joy, but for me, it is a valuable tool to answer the old question "am I fooling anyone, including myself?" Nerdy, maybe, but I make no bones that I'm more interested in the guitar than the music it makes. What a heresy! So sitting in a comfy chair, passing guitars back and forth, listening to them and looking at them, discussing their fine points with like minded guys, well, it does sound weeniefied, doesn't it. Bottom line of this exercise, Clay, to my ear, my guitars sound like, and as good, as the guitars I'm trying to replicate. |

I am not surprized, David. Age is a double edged sword. I believe a handcrafted guitar of a well proven design should have a "leg up" on most factory productions. |
