I'm building a walnut 000, and have the body pretty well finished. when I started to finish the neck, I realized the color was slightly reddish as is normal in mahogany. While this is OK for mahogany, the walnut has no red tint at all, and doesn't look right with the neck as it is now. I tried a few coats of lacquer with Stew Mac tobacco brown dye, and it made it too dark, and I still had the reddish hue. So, I took it back down to raw wood and am open to any suggestions, even ebonising or an opaque light brown finish.

You may be able to see it here, but it's more pronounced in person.

Is the neck walnut or mahogany? If it's walnut, then there's a decent chance it's just different levels of 'time darkening' in the wood (it all turns the same dark brown colour over time). If it's mahogany...why are you trying to make it look like walnut?

It's Mahogany. I'm not nessarily trying to make it look like walnut, I just didn't think the mismatch in color looked right. There is more difference that the picture shows.

neck and body colors or whatever look fine. Different woods, different colors, I have seen larger variance than those. I wouldn't worry to much on that issue.

I'd leave the neck alone. Looks fine to me.
