Thanks for the info. I like the sources list idea. Do you use the L-N burnisher for your scrapers? |

$45 for four pieces of steel is about 50% more than comparable (e.g., Two Cherries) scrapers. What is the finish on the broad surfaces like? It looks matte in the photo, but do they have less grinding marks than Two Cherries? At that price, they could polish them, which would save a bunch of tedious work (needed if you want to leave a smooth surface). But you get two sizes and thicknesses. I never knew I needed that, but maybe . . . . 1/4" carbide shank broken router bit in a handle makes an excellent burnisher. |

I bought a set of scrapers 12 - 15 yrs ago at Lowes when they first opened a store in our town. You can no longer see the name on them but I'm guessing they were made by Sandvik. Are the Sandvik scrapers fairly hard? I ask as I've had a difficult time getting a burr on mine. Of course, I don't know what I'm doing either......but it shouldn't be that difficult. While discussing curved scrapers, is this what is recommended for thinning the perimeter of the sounboard? Could someone posts pics of the scraper they use for this? I assume folks thin on the top of the soundboard.....not the bottom where the braces are attached. Be nice to see a tutorial on this. |
