First off, Welcome to the OLF David! I`ve not seen those DVD's. Looks like a ton of information. There are several good DVD's out which illustrate guitar making. Robbie O'Brian and John Mayes (both OLF members) both have very good DVD's available on guitar construction. |

Welcome, that set looks fantastic even more complete than the john mayes ones, though I doubt anyone could beat john on his advanced voicing dvd, with a book and a little common sense and I did it again I'd buy the Jonathan Kinkade book and all John Mayes voicing dvds there is nothing not included there and if you get stuck keep posting here until you form your own methods I did and do. |

I bought the set from Stewmac with the DVD from Australia. There are 10 in all with the first 8 mainly building the dred. shape guitar. DVD 9 is about making jigs and bending by hand, hand planning the wood, marking and cutting the fretboard, making the guitar mold, and making a bracing dish. DVD 10 is the gritar being played by 3 different players if I remember correctly and also interviews with a wood scienctist, luthier, and a timber supplier. The DVDs seem very complete but then again I am new to this. So all I can say is I have learned a great deal of informtion from them. I keep going over them and I keep picking up things that I didn't get before. Finally, I would say he uses many tools that a woodworker would have such as a bandsaw, belt sander, router, Japanese pull saws, and some general hand tools such as straight edge, ruler etc. He makes a point of letting you know that a good guitar can be made with limited tools. He then follows this by demonstrating the process using mostly hand tools with the aide of the other tools I have mentioned. Having watched the DVDs 3 times completely, so far, I have build up enough courage to give it a try. Chuck |
