Greetings,
Anyone have any thoughts on bracing with a wood different from the top? i.e. a Lutz top and Sitka braces or Red Spruce and Sitka etc.

I routinely brace with Adirondack, regardless of the top material. The combination of Lutz and Adirondack (bracing) seems to work particularly well.

I can't see any reason why the braces should need to be of the same species as the top.

Same here...I've always used stiff Adi braces with all Spruce species as well as Redwood.

A well known Canadian builder, told me he braces with Engleman on all his tops and his guitars sound fantastic. I used this with a sitka top on the Small jumbo I had at Ann Arbor and love the sound, very responsive and loud.
