Many of the toots have not been available due to a down server from the old OLF software. Since I am receiving requests for these toots and getting too lazy to keep emailing them out I decided to repost many of my toots in the Video and Picture Tutorial forum of the OLF. Here is a link to the HHG toot: http://luthiersforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10117&t=21198&p=293976#p293976 Thanks! ![]() |

I just finished using HHG on my wedge guitar bracing and went from hate to love by the time the back was braced. The top bracing was a complete pleasure to work on, especially the clean up of squeeze out. One needs to have everything ready and not waste any time before clamping. How would you get enough time before the glue starts to gel to put tops and backs on back with HHG as they did in the old days. Fred |

A couple of my own little tricks... I Skip the squeeze bottle and use a regular old-fashoned jar with a brush. This way I can test the thickness of the glue each time I use it. I save my salsa jars or whatever jar that fits in my pot and cut a slit in the lid for a brush. The brush I use for gluing is linden brush available from International violin. The brush is not hair but frayed wood and allows you to rub the glue in a little harder. An aspirin dropped into the disolved glue will retard the growth of bacteria due to its acidity. To get a little more open time in the winter, squirt in some Franklins liquid hide glue which contains urea. Here is a good one... keep another little stiff brush in the hot water for clean up. Much better than trying to use a rag. Shake the excess off so it isn't introducing too much water though, but this is very controlable with practice. And in addition, the hot water seeps into the joint and redesolves the glue again after it is clamped giving extra insurance that gelled glue will foul up the joint. Anyone want to do another group buy, let me know, I am almost out. |

Ken I had never heard of the aspirin trick before - very cool! ![]() Tony it does not work like that in that we cannot just move info from one thread to another easily and in the case of the archives at all. So if you want more info in one place, say the toot thread thread, here is your opportunity to help make it happen. This goes for everyone. Have your discussion in the toot thread and list your tips and tricks and everyone will benefit. My intent is to get the discussion going and if you think that what I have done is overly complex fine let's fix it. Add your expertise and let's make the thread better. Thanks |

Thanks Hesh! It is great to see this back up. One thing that I switched over recently is putting the thermometer directly in with the glue. My little rival pot would make some mean swings when it reheated itself up and I wasn't sure what was happening with the glue. I drilled a little hole in the plastic glue bottle and leave the thermo in there. I was surprised to find that the glue temp was lower than the water temp by a little but did not fluctuate as greatly during the pot swings. In all, the little Rival works great! But now I can be sure where my glue is. As others have said also, a little hot plate to heat up the pieces you are gluing is very helpful too. |

I use a standard heat gun from the big box store to warm the parts before gluing. Maybe not as controllable as a hot plate but it works for me. |

Thanks everyone! ![]() Burton bro that is an excellent tip and I actually had that demonstrated to me today at David Collin's shop. His water temp would be 155F and the HHG in a bottle, capped, in the water bath was 145F. Because of this it's time for me to keep the thermometer in the HHG bottle and not in the water. Great tip! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Hey guys, this glue has a half-life of forever in granular form, so it wouldn't hurt to get some and try it out. Thanks, Hutch |

Thanks Hesh So I called them and they sell 192 High Clarity 50 lb. minimum for $3.65/lb. The usual sources sell it for $11.00/ lb. I'll buy the stuff but I need 4 others to commit to 10 lbs each. I'll hold places for Ken and Hutch until they confirm their interest. So that means, I'll hold 2 more places for anyone who wants in on the deal. Let me know. |
