Hey all I just finished a Ziricote/Spruce dred my Dad and I have been working on for several months now. It sounds fantastic - a real bassy thing! We had some hang-ups here and there, but it was all mistakes that we all have to make in order to learn for the next one. I’ve learned a lot of patience with this one, patience that has helped in in “the real world” as well. Some of you have been invaluable in advice and support, especially Ken Hodges. Ken has been kind enough to answer ALL of my Emails with down-to-earth advice and suggestions, and has been kind enough to share personal experiences of Lutherie with me. I thank him very much for that. For all the lurkers and lutherie “newbies” (aren’t we all newbies to some degree?), I offer you one bit of advice. PATIENCE!!! Braces aren’t arched just right, and you have already glued them on - it is far better to take the time and remove them and do it right than it its to look back and say “Well, it’d be great if I only…” Seriously, if I’m able to pass along one thing, it is that I recommend that you take the time to do every step thoroughly, not to try to hurry through it just so you can get to the next, more fun step. It is a wonderful hobby, and it has brought many joys to me and my father. I’d be happy to answer any questions if you have them, but do enjoy the pictures as you will. Very nice Jake. I love that Ziricote and I'd love to see a closer shot of the rosette. Darrin |

I can give you a bigger picture, however I cannot get a closer picture at this time. The ziricote is cut into curved strips with wedges cut into each end. A bloodwood square is fitted into the gaps, and a pearl dot is then inlaid into the square. the entire rosette is then purfled with BWB fiber. I hope this helps! |

Well done Jake! I hope I get the chance to take this guitar for a test drive sometime soon and I am sure that you will enjoy playing it for years to come. ![]() |
