I got my bridge from CNC guitar parts which came with the holes beveled but not much(especially after reaming for the pins). I want to put a wider bevel on the holes. In Robbie's DVD he recommends a countersink bit when making the bridge. Will this work with a hand held drill on a bridge that's already glued on? What size bit should I look for?

It seems like it would work fine but it's one of those things I don't have the experience to make a judgement for myself, so I'd appreciate the help.

I do it all the time .. I use a 3/8 inch 82 degree countersink sold by Lee Valley, part # 06J50.03. it works very smoothly

I use a carbide burr in a hand drill, you can find them at any machine shop.

I've tried a few different kinds of countersinks and had difficulty with each one, so I'm going to get one of the ones that Tony recommended - or try a carbide burr as Laurent suggests. Just wanted to mention that many countersinks do not seem to work well for this purpose, in my experience.

Yeh, I just tried one I got from Ace and it doesn't look as good as it should. I may have to try the one from lee valley to touch it up.

I like the one with a round nose and a zillion little flutes. I forget waht it is called or where it came from, but it does a nice job without chattering.

The stew mac one looks pretty spiffy.

If you are having problems with a chattering countersink, and you just want to finish a guitar without waiting for a tool, you can try running the drill backwards.

I don't recall having seen that type, Jordan. It sounds good. Anybody have any idea what this is called or where to find one? I suppose I could google "countersink round nose zillion little flutes"...

Thanks, Jordan. That looks like a cylindrical radius end burr. There are various carbide burrs similar to that one, as well as burrs with cone-shaped ends that would chamfer the hole more like a typical countersink (such as: http://www.carbidebur.com/shapes/skburs.htm).
