Here are a couple of snaps of some Walnut I'm having milled for a furniture commission. I'll skim off a little cream for guitar sets- maybe 100 or so...

The planks are approximately 2 feet wide and 8 feet long. The tan heartwood dries to beautifully figured and colored material.

Nice log Chas. I can relate. I just recently scored a large California Black Walnut tree that Cal Trans was cutting down just around the corner from my shop! It's really a thrill watching the grain unveil itself while resawing the slabs. Good luck with the project! [:Y:]

I love walnut. I grew up in the middle of walnut orchards, so I am a little sick of walnuts, but I do love the wood. Unfortunately, before I got into woodworking my dad cut down all of his walnut trees. It would have been nice to get all the black walnut portions of the graft and had them sawn into planks and dry for the next decade.

Nice piece of walnut you have there btw. [:Y:]
