I am starting to look into truss rods my question is what style of truss rod would work well on my dread, would the martin style truss rod from lmi work well and the truss adjustment will be through the soundhole. |

I really like the double-action, stainless steel rod from Allied (link above) that was designed by Mark Blanchard. It has a unique system using two different threads that gives it a geared and very smooth adjustment action. They are beautifully made with out the need to grind weld globs off the sides and they weigh about 119 grams. This is the best truss rod IMHO that I have ever used. |

I like the allied rod the best also.More wood and less steel in the neck that way. ![]() |

Well to answer your question, I believe the martin style from LMI would work fine for your dreadnaught. Having said that, I also have to agree that the Allied rod's designed by Mark are just awesome and what I now like to use after trying the hot rod, and making my own Gibson style. The cool thing about Mark's design, as Hesh mentioned is that it has a course thread at one end and a fine thread at the other. This actually makes the rod bow exponentially more, the more you turn the wrench, meaning it is very efficient at doing it's job and probably can correct more bow then one should really ever need. |

I like the Martin-style double-action one from LMI. Being made with a steel channel, it adds a lot of stiffness to the neck. Pretty hefty. Makes a neck feel like some vintage ones that had a stiff steel reinforcing bar instead of a truss rod. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. ![]() Pat |
