Well after a year or more of lurking and a few posted questions, I finally have something to show! This could not have happened without the help and inspiration I get each day perusing this site for ideas and information. So a heartfelt thanks to all! This is a bearclaw sitka/pau ferro 16" lower bout design of my own, done in consultation with my son. This is to be his guitar. (initials MG) I used ebony bindings and made the rosette out of walnut. The neck is a mahogany/maple/bocote laminate. The neck is oil and the body is a French polish.
This is a first completed guitar but actualy my third. The first two are at the finish stage but are waiting till I can afford a spray system. However this one is meant as a birthday gift so it could not wait.

Wow, that's beautiful, Richard. Lot of detail for the first one finished. I've yet to bind a headstock. Great job.

love the fleur de lys headstock inlay hehe :P
seriously, that is one nice guitar... I'm not all that into the back stripe, I think it gets away a little from the pau ferro back (i really love the heartwood in there), but thats just personal taste [:Y:]
and the shape is nice indeed! congrats [clap]

Thanks for the kind words! The shape is a composite of two different guitar bodies, lower bout to waist from one and upper bout from another. Bracing is a generic Martin partern adapted from a magazine picture. I am pleased with the initial sound of the guitar.
Olivier, I agree with you about the backstripe! I had it and somehow felt that I needed to use it! I am still at the stage where I want to pack in as much as I can. Patience and restraint!! The Fleur de Lys comes from an Acadian heritage.

Very nice, Richard! Way too nice for a first. And the one in the box (avatar) looks like a cool shape too!

Thanks Dennis. As I said, it's a first finish, but a third build. It was built in the same mould as the one in the avatar. That's one is the second build.(sitka/wenge) I just swaped out the cutaway add-in.

Nice clean design & work !!
I like Pau Ferro (Iron wood)

Was the Bocote very oily?
The pieces I've seen were heavy & oily.

Keep up the great work !! [:Y:]

Post subject:  Re: First one strung

Once again guys, thanks for the feedback!

Mike: the Bocote was heavy but didn't seem overly oily. It was a board picked up from the local lumber dealer. I used Titebond for the glue-up and things went fine. Next one I think I will use epoxy because of the posts I've read here on neck laminations.

Lars: Thanks and yes that is from Michaels plans. It was not the original choice for the bridge but once I got the plan, I prefered his design and it covered the necesary footprint.
