Well, the solo flight guitar build had lots of ups and downs, but tonight Kyle and I got some one-on-one instruction on setup from a friend - and she now is strung up. Shot a few quick photos to share with you. We still need to do a little fret dressing and finishing - and we may end up tweaking some braces inside - but for now we're enjoying the moment. Guitar #3 is pretty much done! Many thanks go out to many people: To Joe White for another outstanding finish! To Hesh and Kevin Gallagher for answering a multitude of questions ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

That's excellent Paul. I'm really liking these bound sound holes btw. |

Paul, That is stunning! I love your headstock logo. Mine is along those lines as well, different letters so a different shape but yours sure looks awesome! Shane |

Very, very nice Paul. Like the end graft and the way the binding on the board flows into the ring formed by the light top at the sound hole. Lots of nice details but nicely understated. Link |

Well done Paul. The shape of the headstock with your logo is simply elegant. That top is gorgeous too. What is it? Lutz maybe? Vince |

jfmckenna wrote: That is beautiful for your third guitar, sheesh it looks like my 50th guitar ![]() ![]() Sound good too? How does a perfectionist person answer that question???? The guitar is loud for a small box - and the initial take is quite positive. Being a new builder, my guess is that it is a little over braced and that is causing the low end to be a little stiff. The bottom is there - just think I could coax a little more out of the box. Being new at this I don't know exactly what to expect. Being a perfectionist, I will probably do some tweaking on the braces. This will cause me to create a totally new thread on OLF to gather the knowledge I need to move forward. ![]() I have a friend who has expressed interest in the guitar while it was being built. Would I be OK about selling him the guitar (for the cost of my materials) based on the way it sounds right now? Yes! ![]() Would I like to take a good guitar and make it exceptional? Yes! ![]() |

ClintB wrote: I just wanted to say that you've got one of the coolest logos going, as well! -Clint Thanks Clint (and all). We've had great response to our logo and are very happy with it. I have found out that my partner in this (my son Kyle) seems to have a knack for cutting inlay. He'll be doing all my work inlay for me in the future! ![]() ![]() ![]() We ARE making a small change to our headstock design and are giving up the dip in the middle - it is just too tough to deal with when wanting to bind the headstock. We'll let you all vote when we finish the next guitar with the altered headstock. |

I think the coolest part of the experience was last night when we were sitting in my dads kitchen playing two of the guitars we had built. Very unreal, not something I ever thought I would be doing ![]() |

What a beauty! Lots of nice details. I like the rosette, it nearly glows. But your hard work really shows, and Joe's finish really caps it off! |

Bob C at RC Tonewoods makes the stuff, it is called map-o-lam. It already has the purfling attached to the maple. It is an awesome product, we are really pleased with how it looks on the guitar. I know he also sells it in mahogany, and possibly others I am not quite sure. |
