We got an email notification this morning that someone in Mechanical Engineering was trying to pass along an optical reference granite worktable to a good home, and would anyone like it. Of course, I thought this was a good opportunity to pick up a good, really high tolerance granite top to use for smoothing planes, leveling necks, etc.

Turns out the table is 6 ft by 8ft, 9 inches thick, and weighs over 3 tons wow7-eyes wow7-eyes wow7-eyes
Guess I won't be moving that into my basement anytime soon. Too bad.

You don't need to put that one in the basement. It should weather ok outside in the yard.I'd love to have an outdoor bench like that. :D

Maybe we can split it Jim. You bring the chisel and I'll bring the hammer. Over here in Port Deposit we have a history of cutting granite. laughing6-hehe

Port Deposit, eh? A mere stones throw away!

I was wondering what they will do with the top if they got no takers for the whole thing. They may want to bust it up just to get it out of there. I'm going to check.
