Is there any noticible differense between a Slope shoulder dred with scalloped bracing, and a standard Martin dred with the 'same'? |

I don't know if this would apply in all cases, but in my experience w/ the Martin types, the 12 fret sloped shoulder would tend toward a deeper tone, I would suspect due to the larger, more voluminous box, whereas the 14 fret dread would tend more toward the treble end of the spectrum. It's kind of like describing 2 wines, but that's how I have found the differences to lean. john |

It has been my understanding that the 12 fret to body sound difference then the 14 fret is because the bridge is farther back and more centered on the lower bout. What say you experts? Have I been mis lead? |

I have built both 12 fret and 14 fret drednought style guitars and find the sound difference similar to the difference of other 12 to 14 fretters. I prefer the sound of the 12 fret models. I think the function of the upper bout is greatly underrated. I don't think the bridge position in relation to the lower bout moves a great deal from 12 to 14 fret versions (1/2 inch or less?). |
