Fillipo, definitely build the solera. On that, you can either use the corner brackets to determine the plantilla OR use a solid mold. BTW, there is a whole lot more to building a Hauser style guitar than just the plantiilla and bracing patterns. The relation ship of the top and back thickness and their resonant frequencies is vital, it's the difference between a good guitar and a great one. Good luck! It is a worthy project. |

My opinion, the 37 Hauser is a popular build among classical builders. The bracing pattern is very Torres similar in pattern but thinner braces, large plantilla, thin bodied guitar. As far as resourses, Schramm and Brune are both experts on Hausers. You have Brune's 2nd drawing/plans which are very detailed and good (although I wish they were rolled instead of folded), Schramm has an excellent CD rom that compliments those plans nicely and steps through a 37 Hauser build. Although an actual historical repro would be a difficult build with the Hauser V-joint, complicated rosette (although I think copies of a complete Hauser rosette are easy to find), purfs, etc. , a classical build based on the 37 Hauser using traditional spanish methods, top-down on a solera is overall a reasonable first classical build and a great guitar. |
