A couple of members mentioned in another thread that they had not seen any pictures of dreads recently built by members. I'm not the greatest photographer, but here are some photos of a Brazilian Rosewood & Adi Dreadnought that I recently finished. I have built a number of "Bluegrass" Dreads and IMHO you can't beat a traditional BRW/Adi Martin design with forward-shifted, scalloped braces. There are many tricks and techniques to be used in tweaking the sound. Beautiful work, Mike! You can't beat the depth of a nice nitro finish. Are you going to share any of those tricks or techniques? |

Thanks to all for the positive comments! The purfling is .063" wide Blue Paua Abalam strips that are cut from full sheets. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to name the source here but you can P.M. me for that information. Lance, I did not take this guitar to the Kalamazoo show, I delivered it to the new owner soon after I finished it. His name is Pete Gobel and if any of you are Bluegrass Music lovers, you will know why I was honored to be commissioned to build it for him. http://www.thebluegrassjournal.com/TS-Fall-06-10.pdf I would be happy to share any of my tricks or techniques in building but I have to be honest and say that I have seen most of everything I know posted on this forum by others. And no, I did not make the archtop Christmas ornament. My wife told me that she was going to buy me a guitar for Christmas and little did I know it would be a baby Gretsch! Here's some dreads I've built. Three of the 6 acoustics I've completed are dreads, and I have another one under construction. |

I believe that the turkey track is a reflection of the tripod that the turkey is using to hold the camera! Mike Franks www.mjfranksguitar.com |
