Who can make a template for me from a DXF file? I have a DXF file of a guitar body, taylor, and would like a template made from it from 1/4 " lexan, etc. Anybody willing to help and can you give me an approximate cost? thanks, tom harbin |

Tom, shoot Paul Davis at Patriot Guitars an email. He has made body templates for me as well as fret board slotting templates. He use to be a regular here on the OLF, but I think his workload (both professional as well as guitars) has got him hopping. |

Dave Fifield is ready and willing. His prices are awesome, too. His OLF name is "Dave Fifield". |

Hi Tom, I can cut you one from 1/4" thick acrylic, but not Lexan. Lexan is a polycarbonate and has two problems when cutting with a CO2 laser: a) it doesn't cut cleanly without being in a nitrogen flooded environment, and b) it gives off phosgene gas (or something close) which is poisonous and can combine with the moisture in the air to produce hypochloric acid (or something close) that instantly ruins the lens coatings in the laser. I make all my templates from acrylic and haven't had any problems yet. I can cut it for the cost of the material plus shipping for you. PM me the file and we'll go from there. Cheers, Dave F. |

If you don't mind me asking, where'd you get the DXF file? Or did you make it yourself? |

Check with john @ Blues Creek. He may have them to sell. He sells Taylor 14 size molds and forms. Ya, where did you get the dxf. You mind sharing? I already made my own 14 template, mold and form from a trace of my 714CE; but the dxf would be good to have. I can plot large sizes at work. ![]() |

My son is a machinist, but does not have access or permission to use machinery for outside jobs. When he was in school, he was able to take measurements with some sort of equipment and translate them into a DWG or DXF file. I've had it around for a while. My main axe is a W14C, so this is what I used. I'm pleased with the response here and looking forward to using these to make my own forms and molds. I've got the stuff from John, which I've used. thanks to all, tom h |
