I have been motivated to try something different. I have been inspired by the old National resonators such as the El Trovador. It is a deeper wooden body resonator with a single cone biscuit bridge. Traditionally they have a great delta blues sound. That is what I am looking for.

I have decided to build a roundneck with a body based on my OO. It is a 24.9 scale, 4 inch body like the El Trovador. The rest is all my design. There are not too many plans out there. Paul Beard has a couple, but the wooden body plan is for a spider bridge,(different with a soundwell that goes from top to back) and the plan that is a single cone biscuit bridge is a metal body. So I made up my own plans. Most Nationals have a A beam that attaches the neck all the way to the tail block. This goes back to when they started by making banjos. I am going to use my standard double mortice and tenon. It will have a National spun single cone with biscuit bridge. Instead of F holes, I have dog print holes.

For woods, I have a piece of curly cedar from the Zootman that it too flimsy for an acoustic so I have epoxied it to a scrap piece of lutz that Shane used as packing material. (Not a bad set actually) Most Reso's have a very stiff top. This laminate is very rigid. Cocobolo back and sides. Slotted headstock. Waverly 3 on plate tuners.

I really want to do a resonator sometime... yours is cool! Where do i get resonator plans?

Also, whats the story behind the paw marks?

I like it. I think good hardware and a good neck and setup are the main things for a successful outcome so you might as well make the body a beautiful piece of furniture which it is. Congrats.

Great work as usual - I really admire your workmanship....
but even moreso than that, you seem to have an eye for aesthetics in guitarbuilding IMHO..... which isnt something that can be learned - its more of an inhierant thing - I dig your style bud!!!
Im not sure your intentions with this model - if its something youd like to offer exclusively at Lazy Dog Guitars or or as a custom order model not - but if its only a one off, and you wouldnt plan on building them for clients neccesarily, mabye the drawings or plans you created could be translated into another OLF plan? Just a suggestion,, Id love to have access to something like that that for sure...

Thanks for all the nice comments. Hopefully I am using very good hardware. I bought the cone, coverplate, bridge from National. The National tone is what I am looking for without it looking like a National copy.

Mike...The paw prints are sort of a theme in my guitars. My "brand name" is Lazy Dog Guitars. In my acoustics I use a paw print soundport.

As far as plans go, Paul Beard of Beard Guitars has 2 plans available. A wooden body Spider bridge and a metal body biscuit bridge. I came up with my own design since I was making a wooden body with a biscuit bridge. Like the old National wood bodies. I just didn't want the banjo style neck attachment and A beam. The old Nationals have F holes on the upper bout. I just did the dog thing.

Charlie. Thanks for the nice comments. This is just a one time thing for now. We will see how it turns out. If people like it I can cetainly make them for sale. It will be for me so any future client could always play it. As far as making plans available, I should 1st see how it turns out.

Thanks Andy. Is there a preformance issue witht the square neck and round neck? Of this, I am unfamiliar. I have noticed the use of square necks on Dobros... but one does not normally wrap their hand around a dobro neck.

That is the difference Mike
Square necks are played typically in your lap or with a strap so it is horizontal. Round necks are played like a conventional guitar.
