What would the optimium bridge thickness be? Anywhere between 5/16 and 3/8? I'd like to here different opinions as to why you shoot for a particuliar height.

Thanks,
Jeff

Hi Jeff.

You want the string height according to the top to be at about 1/2". So if you want to leave about 1/8" of saddle height on top of the bridge, it leaves 3/8" for you bridge height, +/- 1/16", depending on your neck angle.

Of course, take these mesurments à ball park figures. They may vary from one builder to another.

my bridge is tapered. thicker on the bass side, thinner on the treble side. i typically make them .300 on the bass, and .230 on the treble. the thickness in the center ends up being very close to my fretboard thickness.
