Post subject:  carbon fiber guitar cases

Hi all,

I am making myself an archtop and am looking for a nice case. Last night I found a company (Kanura Guitar Cases) that makes these from light carbon fiber, they claim to make the strongest cases. Unfortunately they do not have a case for an archtop till mid this year, but cases for classical and D-sized guitars are available. Here is the link to the company, located in Thailand if I am right: http://www.karuracase.com/
Cases look good to me, esp. the possibility of a custom made inside - apart from the material (carbon). I have not read anything about them - or about carbon cases - here, I appreciate every comment. I have asked for prices and can post them if any interest occures here regarding this. Will not be a bargain I fear...

Thanks,
Martin

Well, they better be good at twice the price of a Calton... wow7-eyes

Are you planning to become a distributor, or is this just for you? Also, I wonder how much the shipping from Thailand would be. I only buy cases from European countries as the shipping quotes I've gotten from overseas sellers have been prohibitive.

They do look sturdy enough, though.

Hi Arnt!

It is just for me, wanted to share what I found out while searching - and I got the prices now from the bottom of their guitar case page. That´s too much for me for a case, but I like them. Wondering if at anytime a manufactur of such high end cases comes up with an interchangeable model: buy a archtop-sized case and having the opportunity to place in this an interieur that fits the other acoustic models. I would think about buying such a set - if it was available.

Best
Martin

I started getting emails from them over a year ago ..... the luthier cost was way too high (over a grand per US). plus they only have a couple std models, which are pretty useless to me. Nice cases, but too much $ ....

Hi Martin, get in touch with Keith at Calton in the UK. They will custom fit the interior of one of their case models to your specific instrument. You send them a template and some dimensions and that's that. They have pretty good luthier prices, too.

Carlton cases are great, perhaps the best. But they're heavy. The cello players I know love their featherweight CF cases since they have to drag that bulky thing around. Maybe weight has a price…

hey guys,

Accord in Eastern Europe- Czech/hungary around there also make CF cases.
Karuras are nice and solid. Also very light, but ya kinda pay for it. Mind you the Accords are around the same price.
Actually the Carltons are now retailing at 1K so 1.2-1.3K is not miles away from that.
Frankly, having lugged a deluxe harp guitar case around london before, I'd pay the extra 200 bucks and save on a hernia op :P

I'll tell you something though. Given the troubles in Bangkok, I've held off ordering my Karura cases for now.
