Well, I have FINALLY got this stupid thing buffed out... I figured acoustics would be easier than carved electrics because they are not as curvaceous...but that is not necessarily true when you are trying really really hard to get a finish about 0.005" or less... Also, much to my chagrin, I personally learned the lesson of how well the buffer can exert a moment on a guitar-slamming the guitar into the too lightly gaurded metal buffing frame- gouging and cracking the thing, while I the unsuspecting and lazy buffer operator watch in disbelief...lessons learned.... hope you enjoy... catalyzed poly-urethane |

Barry, I will have to get the product code, but I get the stuff from an AutoValue store in Michigan. It is a production clear manufactured by American Painters Supply (I think)... I will PM you with the actual brand name and code... Stephen |

Stephen shared these images with me this morning and ill repeat what I said to him here. He should be very proud! This is his first acoustic, and he bit off a LOT! With the sound port, hand cut abalone rosette, Side purfs and wood bindings! And for it to turn out this nice speaks highly of his wood working skills and future as a guitar maker! Another thing that he has not mentioned is that he designed and built a custom pick up system and external preamp complete with a sweet mahogany box! ![]() ![]() |

Beautiful guitar, Stephen. I'd be interested in knowing if there is any shrinkage in the pores a couple of months down the road. I use a catalyzed poly with wonderful acoustic qualities but it does shrink back some unlike polyester. |

Looks great Steven! So, the buffing wheel is faster than the eye? ![]() It's really not funny, hopefully, you only have it happen once before you pad every hard, pointy, sticky-outy object around. I know from whence I speak..... ![]() |

I waited 3-days to buff. But in conjunction with the shrinkage post, I think waiting another week or two or even a month would be worth it. The headplate is Brazilian with some very deep long pores. If you catch it in the right light, there are already some signs of shrinkage. The guitar is still outgassing a little bit, so I think it should be done fairly soon, but it may get "worse" yet...but it is barely noticeable, so I am not too worried. It is a good finish to use if you know you make finishing mistakes - so you can correct them in a day or so, and not have to wait a month between problems... Thanks so much for your kind words... I strung it up last night and it sounds pretty good.... Stephen |
