Post subject:  "Decorators"...lend me your eye!
Okay, so I'm building a QS Small Jumbo (from Michael's excellent plan)...tell me if this is an appropriate binding/purfling scheme...Bloodwood binding with B/W side laminate...and split (down the middle) herringbone purfling...I have a nice white top already set with a herringbone rosette and single B/W outer ring...I'd like to tie it all together and have it look nice...the guitar's a spec. one...not commissioned...and, if this is a go, should I bind the FB with Bloodwood or just ebony? (It's an ebony board)...Thanks in advance for all the great advice I'm about to receive! :D

What is the B/S wood? I just finished two small 0 sized guitars in
ribbon Sappel with bloodwood bindings and bwb purfling on top
and sides. I really like the look of the bloodwood with the rich
brown of the Sappel. I think the herringbone would add a little
extra bling.

Hi Gene, the B/S is Quilted Sapele...thanks for the input...I just don't want to do something that'd be "weird" as far as pairing something as traditional as herringbone with Bloodwood and B/W laminates...but I think it'll look good together...I just value the collective opinion of the OLF... [:Y:] If it was a commission it'd be whatever the customer wants but I don't want to make it unmarketable if someone would've otherwise purchased it...

You need to lay the Bloodwood side by side against the Quilted Sapele.
Usually things look differently in our imagination than in real life.
Does the Bloodwood bring out some reddish tints in the Sapele?
Or does it offer a jarring clash?
Look at it critically, and try laying some other combinations against the Sapele and see if something else is a better compliment.
Remember the QS offers its own fireworks, usually needing very little to help it along.

True words Steve...I thought of going with just EIR bindings against the herringbone, or possibly no herringbone at all...I just was thinking how convenient it would be to pair that top with the QS rims...I know, laziness (I like to call it "expediency" :D ) shouldn't dictate what I pair together...

I bound two quilted sapele guitars in bloodwood .... purf was maple/orange/maple - so nothing dark in there at all, except one small black line separating the purf from the top, and a bit in the rosette. When I started doing the neck, I had one all ready to go bound in ebony, as per my usual - but when I held it on the for the first time, I thought it looked awful on that guitar, it was the only dark mass on it. So i built another, rosewood board, and bound in bloodwood ... looked much more coherant.
